Interactive Tour (with Pilot Street and St. Nicholas Chapel)

Find out what life was really like for the Fisherfolk of the North End. Take a guided tour of the last two remaining fishermen’s cottages in King’s Lynn and discover just how hard life was for the Northenders. Visit the Smithy to learn about boat building and the fishing industry. View the magnificent fishing smack the Activity and hear about life at sea. Experience the distinctive aroma of Thomas Westwood’s Smokhouse and find out how food was preserved in the past. Discover how they used to wash their clothes by participating in a washday. Explore Pilot Street and St. Nicholas’ Chapel to learn more about family and social life in the North End.

 

WWII ~ Become an Evacuee for a day

It is hard to imagine what it felt like to be evacuated in WWII. Meet a real Evacuee and learn how she was evacuated from London to Norfolk. Visit the cottages and discover what it would have been like to be an evacuee living in the North End.

 

Then and Now

The North End has been though a lot since the 1930s, but some things never change.

Using old photographs, maps and our North End model, discover what remains of the Old North End.

Tour the North End streets and see for yourself the changes that have occurred over time and learn the secrets of the buildings that still stand.

 

Maritime Trail

Spend half the day visiting the Green Quay and exploring the Maritime Heritage of King’s Lynn. Stop for lunch at True’s Yard, before exploring the fishermen’s cottages, Smokehouse, Smithy, Activity fishing smack, Pilot Street and St. Nicholas Chapel and help out with the North End washing!

Important Information

COST: £2.50 per child (teachers and helpers are free of charge)

Time Club Schools receive a reduced rate for admissions; please contact the Museum for details 

The children are encouraged to dress appropriately for the era of study as it adds to the experience
