Digging Deep
Saturday 23rd July
This event will consist of digging a one meter square Test Pit in the True’s Yard garden. We will record each 10cm ‘context’ using the Cambridge University recording form and examining any finds.
The investigation is focused on the urban strata and lifestyles of this famous Georgian and Victorian North End fisherfolk community. We already know quite a lot about the history of the fisherfolk but hope to supplement that with what we unearth from the material cultural record. We will have staff on-site to explain and demonstrate the procedures used, and to acquaint visitors, young and old, with the process of archaeological excavation.
We will be using equipment from the Archaeology Society to dig and record the pit.
This event is free and does not include admittance to the Museum. For Museum admission prices please visit our website: https://truesyard.co.uk/
