Vic and Val have been running family history sessions at True’s Yard since 2010.

First as a weekly course and then as drop in sessions which assist all researchers, whether a beginner or experienced. They cover:
•Introduction and background information on how to start to research family history
•Census Records and Settlement Records.
•Parish Records and how to order Birth, Marriage and Death Certificates from the General Record Office or online.
•Use of Local Records Offices, Public Libraries, Family History Societies.
•Searching for wills/military records, etc.
•Dating and “reading” photographs.
•Use of Ancestry.co.uk (the Library edition of which is accessible in the Museum’s Research Centre for free), Findmypast, Familysearch, The Genealogist, etc.
•Update the class with anything new in the field of genealogy.
•Discuss the areas of research undertaken by each person that week and assist with any stumbling blocks – the whole group sharing experiences
