Dr. Julian Litten will be presenting his insights into the life of Chauncey Hare Townshend (1798-1868). A former student at Eton and Cambridge (B.A. 1821; M.A. 1824), he took holy orders but was not long active in the ministry. Townshend was a colourful character who was not only an amateur painter and musician but also became interested in clairvoyance and mesmerism. Dr. Litten will discuss the role Townshend played in the history of West Lynn Church.
