 Exhibition Opening at True’s Yard

Nelson’s Men

Friday, May 04, 2018 12 noon

This exhibition will look at the men of King’s Lynn who served under Vice Admiral, Horatio Nelson, the War Ships that were built here that served in the great battles and the controversial Press Gangs who terrorised the town during the Napoleonic Wars.  We also look to Nelson’s family connections here in King’s Lynn and the influences on the “Norfolk Man”.

Talking about the exhibition Museum Manager, Lindsey Bavin said “The Napoleonic War left a mark on King’s Lynn as it did all over the country. In 1814 the town held an enormous Peace Festival dinner for over 6,000 people in Tuesday Market to celebrate what they thought was the end of the War. We have Nelson Street and the incredible portrait of the Vice Admiral which hangs in our Town Hall. However this exhibition does not focus on those in the foreground of history but those in the back. The purpose of this exhibition is to celebrate and educate on the contribution of the people of King’s Lynn in the Napoleonic War.

The exhibition will run until 30th June.
